Unwrite the Old Songs Artsy Video
I made this "found art" style video for the b-side song known as "Unwrite the Old Songs". It was a favorite track of mine and I thought I would make a video that was as weird and random as a Look What I Did album.
It's been approximately two years since I made this video but there are still a couple key moments that crack me up. My video crafting skills have improved but I'm eager to revisit the video and reveal the loose narrative I imagined while piecing together this work of art.
The video includes some 80's references including the mullet, dancing to ghetto boxes, and monster truck racing. One may reminiscence on the good ole days or look back and jest at the silly trends that manifested. Unwrite the Old Songs reminds me of the old REM song Crush with Eyeliner particularly the lyrics:
"We all invent ourselves...And you know me"
The video starts with a clip referencing Pygmalion, a famous Sculptor from Greek Mythology who fell in love with one of his statues.
3min 9sec a random picture of Wesley Willis .
At the 3min 14sec mark I included a clip from a trailer for a Zombie Movie filmed in Franklin, TN that never saw the light of day called "The South Will Rise Again".
3min 59 seconds I mistakenly refer to the title of Atlas Drugged as Atlas Shrugged.
i want to write a lyric
that i won't regret in the morning
i'm tired of building ivory castles
to just find out they're made of chalk
and maybe not wall it in with the vulgar
because that's such a "me" thing to do
and i suppose i would try if you let me
to preserve your essence in posterity (forever)
are you worth it?
if you find the art to be invasive
be careful who you are inspiring
we can't help but feel like liars
when we present these loft galateas
though they may be milky-white on the surface
the maggots have consumed their hearts
and maybe thats the charm for the listener
that the image they get is seen through filters
and i suppose i have tried and i've failed to
deliver the picture with conviction (embellished)
you weren't worth it
was a fool
its all a waste of my time
i will unwrite
all my old songs
you have invalidated them
i feel cheap
***my artistic interpretation of the Look What I Did song is my own opinion***
